Q: What are the water and sewer hookups like in Nicaragua?

Virtually all planned developments in Nicaragua provide a water hookup to your lot line. Water is provided by the developer via private wells, and is typically not potable as compared to North American standards; however, is typically fine for showering, landscaping, etc. Sewer is almost always in the form of individual septic tanks on each lot, and is the responsibility of the lot owner. Developers should provide you with an approved septic tank design upon request. Very few planned developments have installed intricate sewer or water treatment systems so far.
